I often find that when I ask people about their creative abilities, they begin to speak about arts & crafts. I bet you were thinking along the same ideas. Have you ever considered the fact that we all have creative abilities, but we don't think of the things we create on a daily or moment by moment basis.
Take a moment to reflect on the things you have created today; it might have been meal, an assignment, a smile, a memory, a piece of music..
I would like you to ponder on how you created time to do all things that you felt you needed to fit in the day. You might be thinking I can't create time, time already exists. You are correct, time as in how many hours we have in a day already exist. Yet, what we do in those 24hours is how we create moments of time that make or complete our day. Have you ever wondered how some people appear to fit more in their day than others, or squeeze time to catch up on social media, go to the gym, stop for a catch up with a friend...
To create is to bring something into existence; to produce, manufacture, construct and shall I add memories. We are constantly making memories that stamp or even more so tattoo our mind with moments that often last a life time. Time is one of the most valuable gifts that we have in life. It is so precious that once it has gone it can never be recreated.
I would love to hear your comments on what you create time for or what you have discovered as your creative abilities since reading this article.
Jesus gave His life that we may live life abundently in freedom understanding Gods love that dispells fear. Furthermore it is His grace and mercy that sets us free from guilt and shame.
Jesus gave His life, it wasn't taken from Him, He freely gave it; the purpose was that we may not just have life but have life abundantly (John 10:10). If you are reading this article the chances are that you have life, my question to you then is are you living your life in abundance or in freedom? The chances are that if you are carrying a burden that is too heavy for you to carry or that is not intended for you to carry then, you are either doing life or surviving but not living life in abundance.
Jesus lives so that you and I can also live life to the fullest with - freedom, peace, joy, hope... God sent His Son (John 3:16) and Jesus gave His life (Galatians 1:4) that we may not just enjoy the abundance on earth but into eternity as we believe in Jesus Christ who is the risen Messiah.
This Easter take a moment to stop and look at your cross/burden/sin you are carrying that is keeping you from living life to the fullest. Take it to Jesus, His life, death and resurrection will make a difference in your life, if you surrender your life to Him. Its in the surrender that you give up your cross, why do you want to carry a cross, when He is not on a cross? Surrendering something is not the end but the beginning; the beginning of new possibilities, discoveries, living in freedom...
Many of us think that joy and happiness are the same – well it’s not. Joy is a state we choose to be in and requires us to act for it to come alive. Happiness is a feeling, its emotions that come out of choosing joy.
To cultivate joy we need to express it through
* Rejoicing - this is about being thankful
* Being glad - this is about how we think
* Cheerful - this is about our attitude
In order to nurture joy, we need to know who we are. We are not an accident; we were born to live a life of purpose. To realise and live a life of purpose we must be thankful for all that we do have. Being thankful in all circumstances gives us hope which builds us up rather than pulling us down. Our thoughts have the ability to separate us with lies that stem from fear. Truth sets us free from fear and the truth is that we are loved by a gracious and merciful God that will never leave nor forsake us. In order to live a life that is governed by joy we must have regular checks on our attitude, our attitude can either make or break us.
Joy is an act and state of the heart, where as happiness is an emotion that springs out of our thinking. Is it time to mend your broken heart so that you can think more clearly? It is possible that you have been living a life filled with fear? Is it time to find out the truth for your life? Do you want to live a life filled with JOY?
When we make joy a choice then we can make happiness a lifestyle. Each morning as you wake up express joy, then throughout the day choose to nurture it.
Stress is a necessary and healthy part of our human function. Most of us would agree that stress is not always visible but is real. Stress begins in our thought life and progresses to influence our brain and body. When our body carries prolonged stress we often will get sick as our immune system gets weak.
If you regularly experience stage 2 or 3 of stress; seek professional assistance. We can’t live in the future for it is the unknown for the most part. We may set goals and make plans but we must have flexibility within those plans. We can’t live in the past for once it’s gone we have no ability to alter the outcome.
I encourage you to live in the present; it is a gift you can give yourself as you guard your heart and gain self-control. The mind controls the brain and the brain is directed by the thoughts of our mind and the desires of our heart. When you have an event which you know is going to cause you stress, ensure you eat a balanced diet, exercise and get rest before, during and after the event. This will assist you to be resilient.
The soul is the innermost part of the human being, one definition calls it the intention centre. I thought that was a great definition. For it is out of this that our thought process, character development, attitude and thinking take place. It is the very thing that drives our
This part of the body is what the Bible calls the heart for it out of this 'intention centre' that our living takes place. Therefore it is important to guard it, for it is the wellspring of life. The things we should guard our soul from is fear, shame, guilt....the thing that protects the soul is unconditional love, acceptance and belonging.
How do you guard this valuable asset - the soul?
Most mornings I have a bit of a debate with myself, how long should I stay in bed before I get up and face the world or before the world faces me. You see, I am a afternoon person. I find my body functions best in the afternoon. My problem in the morning is not that I have to wake up, but that I have to get out of bed and take a step. The difficulty is physical pain experienced when I get my legs to move, most often it improves as the day goes. Although rest is a key in managing the pain, I have more to gain from movement and rest than rest alone. I can’t just think of my legs, I have to consider my whole body, every part is important and works together to get me through the day with the assistance of my mind and spirit.
Every part of me has equal importance and must work together for optimal performance. Getting the body, mind and spirit to work in unison is the key towards optimal health. Each part needs movement, rest and pleasure. Staying in bed is not going to achieve this. I know this is the truth, but the fact is, I don't often feel comfortable taking that first step in the morning. The first step is the problem, so I have to coach my self as the only thing I have control over is my mind. I can't control my pain but how and what I choose to focus my thinking on will influence how my brain responds to my pain.
I have to make a decision to bring my body, mind and spirit into agreement. This union creates peace within and gives me willpower to sit up, stand and take that first step. I know if I want to live out my dreams I have to get out of bed, this propels me to move, to see the world outside of my bedroom. We all have choices, what we have to come to terms with is what is the best choice. Facts have merit, but truth is undeniable.
Have you ever considered why some people who are told they will never walk again defile the odds, it is because their willpower to live, to achieve is stronger than their desire to survive. I am not saying it is easy, but what I am saying is the choice is mine. I have to accept and acknowledge that I have pain but I don't have to stop dreaming or living.
Our willpower is our ability to push through or stand firm with courage and determination. It comes from knowing who you are and whose you are not to mention knowing that God is always within hearts reach to inspire and strength us to pursue our dreams. Is it time to realise your dreams and live life to the fullest? Seek the truth, beat the odds, make a difference in your life.
We have all heard and know about the importance of exercising our physical body. But, did you know that it is also very important to exercise the brain. One of the keys points of exercise for the brain is to have fun through learning. This creates reward-motivated behaviour. Although learning something new is challenging, the reward is that we gain new insight and knowledge in the process that hopefully we will utilise in life.
Furthermore, learning something new in a fun way releases the feel good chemical dopamine. Learning new things is about exercising the brain and keeping it fit and healthy. When our brain is fit and healthy it is able to assist us to function better physically, emotionally, mentally and spiritually.
Some key points about dopamine
Thinking about something that is pleasurable will releases some dopamine, if you act out the desire and you get a positive reward you release even more. Some ways to exercise your brain
When we don't have enough fun in life (most often because we have forgotten how to play). Learning new things is about exercising the brain, but make it fun. Think of babies, each new thing they learn is rewarding for them; how to crawl, walk, hold or pick up things... in the process of learning and having fun they grow. Why do we adults think that fun is only for children. Discover your fun gene or release your fun gene today, you might even discover your purpose and passions in the process.
I am certain that at some point in life if you haven't heard this saying you will, particularly around times of celebration. As we approach the Christmas holidays and all the festive activities that goes with it, lets keep a few things in mind.
So, I know you are thinking and possibly laughing because if you were not breathing you would not be reading this post, as you would be dead. Breathing is one of the most fundamental things for living and yet we take it for granted that it just happens. After all do you remember when you took that first breath? I am sure you will not remember when you take your last for it will be too late. You may have seen someone take their first breath at birth or last breath as life left them at death, or you may have even experienced a time when you felt like you were just about to take your last breath or had difficulty breathing. What most of us don't realise is that breathing is an art form. There is a right and wrong way to breath. If or when we continue to breath incorrectly (shallow breathing) we can cause health issues. If you have pain it will increase, stress and anxiety will increase and you may even get brain fog, digestive issues....When we breathe correctly (deep breathing) we strengthen the immune system, reduce stress and anxiety, eliminate toxins, improve digestion...
Our body is very good at keeping memory. If you have gotten into a pattern of incorrect breathing you will need to rectify this by making a conscious decision to breath properly. You will need to practice breathing correctly at least 3-5 times a day till this becomes the standard and imprints on your brain.
The old nursery rhyme 'Sticks and stones will break my bones but words will never hurt me" is so not true. Words have the ability to get into our minds and taunt us for the rest of our lives when we decide to believe them. If a person gets called a name for long enough they will start to believe it, become it and live it out. The problem is we pay more attention to the 'bad' names we are called or the negative things that are said about us than anything else. So, when someone comes along and says something positive and uplifting we find it so hard to believe.
When we eat foods that are bad for our physical health, it begins to build up in our arteries and can one day when we least expect it cause a heart attack. In the same way the things we listen to gets into our hearts and minds and has a way of causing blockages. These blockages start off small and over the years depending on how much negativity we have let in will start to cause issues, mentally, physically and spiritually.
In this picture the dark blood signifies blood vessels being clogged. For this heart its the beginning, a few holes have also started a leakage (letting out hurts).
Is it time that you ensured your heart is not blocked or that you are not expressing your self due to the hurt but rather the joy your heart feels? Another saying 'hurting people hurt people'.
Is it time for you to start listening to life giving words rather than hurtful words.
